Apple Media Event Roundup: iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iTunes 10, iPod Touch 4, Apple TV

Last night was very exciting for Apple fans. New version of iTunes, upgraded versions of iPod Nano and iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, and a new Apple TV. In fact Apple gave its users much more than they were expecting. If you missed the live streaming of the event last night, here is the summary for our readers.

1. iOS 4.1:

This new version will be rolled out for certain iDevices models next week. iOS 4.1 fixes the proximity sensor issue and also brings new features like HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. The much awaited game centre is also introduced in this version. Attn: If you are using a jailbroken iPhone or you rely on carrier unlock, never update your iDevice untill iPhone Dev Team releases a new jailbreaking tool for it.

2. iOS 4.2:

iOS 4.2 will be released in November for iPhone, iPod Touch 4 and even for iPad. It will bring multitasking to iPad. We will also be able to stream music and videos from iTunes to iOS devices with AirPlay ( a new name of AirTunes). A new feature “Wireless Printing” will also be introduced in this version.

3. New iPod Nano and Shuffle:

Apple also introduced a new iPod Shuffle for its fans. It has a clickable wheel. On the other side, iPod Nano has a touch screen and it runs on iOS.

4. iTunes 10:

With new logo and UI, iTunes 10 is now also available on PC.

In iTunes 10 Apple announces a new feature called “Ping“. Ping is a new social place like twitter and facebook. You can follow your friends, artists, discover music they are talking about, listening and downloading.

5. iPod Touch 4:

We can say that the new iPod Touch is a new iPhone 4 except that we can’t make and receive calls and can’t get data over 3G. The other features of this version of iPod Touch are:

It has the iPhone’s Retina Display, a 3.5-inch IPS-based that has a razor-sharp 326ppi resolution. That’s 960 x 640 pixels.

It can record 720p high-definition video and take photos with its back camera.

It can FaceTime with other iPod touches and iPhone 4s, using its front camera.

It runs at the same speed of the iPhone 4, using the same Apple A4 chip.

It incorporates the same 3-axis gyroscope of the iPhone 4, which makes motion tracking more precise than just the accelerometer.

They have also increased the amount of playback time: 40 hours.

It will have iOS 4.1 built-in.

6. Apple TV 2010:

The newly announced Apple TV is only one-fourth the size of original.

It supports HDMI output, 802.11 WiFi-N and optical audio. There is no local storage here, Apple TV completely depends on the cloud for streaming media content. Apart from iTunes, you will be able to access Netflix, Youtube, Flickr and MobileMe services right from the comfort of your couch.

iTunes 10 with new Logo Announced by Apple – Available to Download

At the Apple annual media event, a new version of iTunes 10 with new logo was also announced. The new logo is just a circle with 8th notes in it. In iTunes 10 Apple announces a new feature called “Ping“. Ping is a new social place like twitter and facebook. You can follow your friends, artists, discover music they are talking about, listening and downloading.

You can also get a custom top 10 charts based on the stuff you follow. In ping you can follow and followed back and you can also reject the request of any follower too. You can also set you status private or public, in fact the privacy is very simple in this new iTunes.

In iTunes 10 you can also post comments on songs and artists photos etc. The important feature of iTunes 10 is that it is now available on computer as well besides iPhone, iPod etc.

iOS 4.2 is Coming in November

Here is another news from Apple CEO that the next iOS 4.2 is coming in November. The iOS 4.1 will come out next week with many bug fixes and some new features, but the new iOS will be released later. We will also keep updating you abou this new iOS 4.2 after the break.

This new iOS 4.2 will bring multitasking to iPad. The next big feature is this version is AirPlay, a new name for AirTunes, which allows uses to stream videos and music from PC to iPad via WiFi.

The third improtant feature in iOS 4.2 is Wireless Printing from your iDevice.

This will be a major update from Apple And I think iPhone Dev Team will try to develop a jailbreak tool for version instead of iOS 4.1 which is being released next week.

iOS 4.1 with High Dynamic Range Photoes and Bug Fixes Announced

Apple CEO just announced a new iOS 4.1 with many new bug fixes e.g., proximity, bluetooth etc with new feature High Dynamic Range Photoes. A new feature “Game Centre is also introduced in this new iOS.

Watch Apple Event Live on Windows / Linux [HowTo]

It is unexpected but it’s true that only those users will be able to stream the live event of Apple today who are on Mac, iPhone, iPod and /or iPod. The reason of this limitation is that Apple is using new HTTP Live Streaming technology which has been introduced in Snow Leopard’s Quick Time X and iOS 3.0 and above.

This new protocol of streaming has been proposed as standard and so far only Apple introduced it. So all those users who are on windows / linux operating system will not be able to stream the event live. If you are unsure, open this sample address in your browser and test yourself. I have tried it on Windows 7 but I can’t watch any video.

MacRumors has posted a solution to this problem for Win and Linux users. They will have to install a free media player VLC and add the streaming URL in the Network option. For example to stream the above example video add the following URL:

http://devimages.apple.com/iphone/samples/bipbop/gear1/prog_index.m3u8

VLC will load all parts of the stream into its own playlist. It works fine for this pre-recorded stream as the entire playlist is already constructed. The catch for today’s live transmission is that VLC doesn’t know that more will becoming, so it looks like you’ll have to repeatedly reload the playlist manually to get the next few segments. It’s not an elegant solution, but with some persistence, it seems like it will work.

Apple will release a revised iPhone 4 without Reception Issue Next Month

In Mexico Telcel is finally giving out iPhone 4 with some new plans to its customers. But when asked the iPhones will be same as were sold in the US with the reception problem, Marco Quatorze, Director of Value Added Services Telcel network, replied:

“Yes, they are the same as those sold in the U.S.. The problem is the antenna that comes in the housing. The case will give Apple free, going to their website and sending a log to be make them come. “

He further addded that the company will receive new version of iPhone 4 that will be free of any reception problem and the company will also offer different options to its customers to get the revised iPhone 4.

“If the previous plan is over, you will need to hire a new change for iPhone 4. If, for example, already has one and take three months for payment, change the cell with a re-employment and takes into account the previous time, so instead of paying 24 months, only done in 21. “

Jailbroken iPod Touch 4 / 4G Found on ebaY

It is being expected that yesterday Apple will reveal the details, release date and shipment date of new iPod Touch 4/4G . But interestingly a jailbroken iPod Touch 4 is already available on eBay. This also indicates that the new version of iPod will be running on iOS 4.0.1, which is jailbreakable version, instead of iOS 4.0.2.

If it is supposed that iPod Touch 4G will come with iOS 4.0.2, then the question arises how the idevice found on ebaY is already jailbroken. In this case there are two possibilities; either the guy got the iPod on which iOS 4.0.1 was installed for testing purpose, or he downgraded the OS from iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.0.1.

So far the leaked specifications of iPod Touch 4 show that this new version of iPod is powered by A4 processor, the same which is used in iPhone 4. It will also have a front facing camera for video calling / facetime. On back 5MP camera with flash is being anticipated.

Some more iPhone 4 features like accelerometer and gyroscope might also come in the new iPod.

Official Bing App for Android Mobiles is Now Available [Verizon]

Microsoft has released the first official Bing App for Android based mobiles and it is now available to download for all Verizon users. Some features in this android Bing app are:

When you open the Bing app, you see image of the day on your phone. The image contains clickable hotspots that you can discover and explore the related trivia. In case you have missed any image, you can view the images up to last 7 days.

You can switch to image search or web search any time in the results. The images are scrollable upto endless results.

Besides the search field, you will also find a mic icon. Hold down this icon, speak any word like movies and find your result without typing any word.

The Android app also has a pretty smooth mapping feature. First, Bing will automatically find your current location. You can then easily discover new places by category such as restaurants, banks, theaters and you can choose whether you want walking or driving directions. Swipe through each step of your directions, and check out how fast the map pans and zooms. For times when you only have one hand free and can’t pinch, there is the handy zoom-out button.

In addition to these features, Bing also provides local listing review, ratings and news.

Removing spotlight from your iPhone may help it run smoother and load up quicker.

So if you are a iPhone 3G user and don’t use spotlight, checkout NoSpot and install it from Cydia free.

To download any app from Cydia, it is must that first you jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch.
