If you are using skype on your Nokia N900 and go to “Availability” option, you won’t find any status to make yourself invisible. However you don’t need to worry, you can create new status with few taps.

To make more statuses other than the default ones, follow these simple  steps.

Step 1:

Open your skype application on your Nokia N900 and go to “Availability“. On the right side of screen you will see “New Status” option, and tap on it.

Step 2:

In the field of “Name” type whatever you want like invisible, out of sight, etc.

Step 3 (optional):

You can also change the icon for new status. Tap on the icon and a list of available icons will be displayed. Select any of them.

Step 4:

Now tap of Skype account and select the Invisible from the list and save the newly created status. The status will be available on “Availablilty“. Tap on the status to make yourself invisible to your friends with one click.

Also you can use the steps described in this tutorial to create other custom statuses like “Away“, “Do not disturb” or “Offline“.

Today Microsoft has officially announced the availability of Silverlight for symbian based mobiles and soon we will see many applications for S60v5 mobiles based on silverlight.

What is Silverlight?

Silverlight is the implementation of .Net framework to develop the rich interactive applications for desktop systems. Because the apps built on silverlight require huge memory to run, so normally it is not possible to view the silvernight content on mobile that have very low memory.

Silverlight for symbian contains a runtime that optimizes the content to display on mobiles. Current version is compatible with S60 5th edition phones like Nokia N97, N97 mini, Nokia 5800 xpressmusic etc.

A beta version of silverlight has already been released for symbain mobiles. At the moment silverlight has got support for default browser only (WebKit-based).

IQ blog has released a video showing a testbed app for facebook running on Nokia N97 using the Silverlight SDK for symbian. The video shows the future development of mobile apps based on silverlight.

If you see the whole video, you can imagine the interactivity coming in new apps for symbian mobiles. Soon the dull and text-based apps will be replaced with rich media and interactive ones.

Microsoft® Silverlight™ for Symbian – Beta is available for download at Microsoft Download Center. If you install the application, you won’t see any icon but it integrates with default browser of mobiles. I visited different silverbased sites after installing this app, but the browser crashes down due to large sized contents. Hopefully mobile optimized sites based on silverlight will come soon.

Finally Microsoft has recognized the importance of games for hand-held devices. They have shown the same importance in the newly launched windows phone 7 series OS for mobiles.

Games and 3D graphics are one of those characteristics in this OS that will increase the success rate of windows phone 7 series mobiles in future.

We all know that iPhone is at top in providing the excellent performance and 3D graphics with a lot of games available at App Store. Microsoft seems to have understood the importance of this area and now they are trying target the youth and gamers directly via mobile phones.

Previously it has been mentioned that Xbox Live is coming to Windows Phone 7 Series and this time The Harvet is demoed which can be played on the computer, the mobile and on  Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade with the same saved data.

Though all the apps available at App Store are compatible with iPad, but more and more apps are being developed for ipad only.

Currently you can choose any app out of 150,000 from App Store which can be run in original size or expanded to fill the screen of iPad. After getting your iPad, you can tap on App Store icon and visit the iPad Apps Category which will contain the apps specifically for iPad.

PadNotes is a new app which takes the advantage of large screen and multi-touch interface of iPad. You can perform the following functions with this app:

• Draw, write, or highlight any text on a document while using image or PDF as the background.
• You can draw different types of images. Straight or curved lines can be drawn with this app.
• This app can also be used for quickly filling out the forms.
• Mathematical work can be performed with ease. It will be very useful for students.

There are many applications available on AppStore that require firmware 3.1.3 installed on your iPhone. However if you don’t want to upgrade the iphone firmware, here is a simple solution for this problem.

On Cydia a tweaking app is released for jailbroken iPhones that will allow iPhone users to install the apps which are specifically released for iPhone OS 3.1.3. The purpose of this app is very simple as  it replaces the information contained in a variable that shows the firmware version of iPhone/iPod.

You can find the “Firmware 3.1.3″ in cydia via the BigBoss respository. I remember that  another app, Fake 3.1.3, is also available for the same purpose but I don’t know what is the difference between the functioning method of these two apps.

Sony Ericsson is going to roll out a new firmware for its symbian based “Satio” this weekend. Initially some specific regions will get the update and more will be covered in the coming week.

However some users might face delay in receiving the update due to late approval by different operators.

A lot of bugs have been fixed in this release with many improvements. You can get the update through Update Service Client found at www.sonyericsson.com/update .

According to the SE Blog the important changes in this firmware will be:

• Support for WVGA video recording – The already great video recording will be enhanced to fit the wide screen format and hence resolution is also slightly increased to 864 * 480 pixles. (the preset size will still be VGA, user has to change to get WVGA)
• Upload of pictures to Facebook – It will be possible to upload pictures directly from the picture menu you have on the home screen or from the Media UI.
• Youtube video uploading – It will be possible to upload videos to Youtube directly from the Media UI.
• Conversational messaging – “Conversations” will be nicely integrated in the messaging menu in order to easily find and inspire to more conversations with your friends.
• DLNA support – The new software will support DLNA media server for easy transfer of audio and still pictures. (Note that video is not supported)
• UI improvements – On top of above, several minor UI improvements have been done in order to optimize the user experience.
• The Facebook application that is now available on PlayNow for free download will be included in the sw.

Finally it has been disclosed by Charlie Kindel, Microsoft Partner Group Program Manager for the Windows Phone Application Platform & Developer Experience, that the existing applications of Windows Mobile will not run on newly launched mobile OS by Microsoft.

Kindel says in his blog post on March 4:

The Windows Phone 7 Series developer platform is as different as the new user experience. It’s fresh. It’s pure. And it’s powerful.

The new Windows Phone 7 Operating system will also support the following platforms which are already the key GIANTS by Microsoft to develop other platforms and Windows for PCs is also one of them.

• .NET
• Silverlight
• XNA platform
• Microsoft’s developer tools
• Web 2.0 standards

In the post Charlie Kindel clearly describes:

One result of this is previous Windows mobile applications will not run on Windows Phone 7 Series.

To be clear, we will continue to work with our partners to deliver new devices based on Windows Mobile 6.5 and will support those products for many years to come, so it’s not as though one line ends as soon as the other begins.

After reading the whole post one thing which I concluded is that Microsoft Company wants to have a lot of apps and games for Windows Phone 7 series. In fact their main goal will be to beat the Mobile Stores of Apple and Google which are the largest stores of apps and games for iphone and android based mobiles.

Microsoft will reveal more details about apps, games and platform for Window Phone 7 at the Mix 10 conference which will start on March 15 in Las Vegas.

A new tool, ToolJail, is under process to jailbreak the iPhone and iPod Touch devices. This tool will be based on Windows Operating System.

The beta version of this tool is being tested by various bloggers and iPhone Jailbreakers. In fact this tool is a mini wikipedia for iPhone jailbreaking. You can find different types of guides, howtos, unlock process, check iBoot,  check the MC model, the ECID etc.

The usage of this new tool is very simple and easy. After opening this tool in windows, you will have to do the following steps to know whether your iPhone/iPod is jailbreakable or not.

1. Select the device type i.e. iPhone 2G/3G/3GS etc.
2. Select the firmware version installed on your iPhone / iPod
3. Select your iBoot (only for iPhone 3GS) If you don’t know about your iBoot click on How can i know it button highlighted just under the option.
4. Confirm If you have saved ECID through Cydia (only for iPhone 3GS)
5. Select your computer operating system i.e. Mac/Windows
6. iPod Touch 2G should confirm your Model MB or MC

After completing all the fields, you will have to click on “Search”. If your device is jailbreakable, you will get a green windows otherwise a red window.

After it is confirmed that phone is jailbreakable, you can proceed for actual jailbreaking process.

The Product Manager for Ovi Mail has just published a post on Nokia Beta Labs blog about the release of new Ovi Mail 2.0. Now the contacts in Ovi Mail have been integrated with Ovi Contacts.

The contact list will be same on both Ovi Mail and Ovi contacts and it can also be synchronized with the phone.

Hem has told how this One Contact List will work:

1. User opens an email from a friend in Ovi Mail on the web and sends a reply back
2. Ovi Mail shows a dialog box asking if he wants to add the person to his address book.  User says yes and fills in the entries and clicks on ‘Add contact’
3. Within a few minutes, the new contact appears in Ovi Contacts on the web because Ovi Mail now is integrated with Ovi Contacts
4. User decides to sync his phone to get the newly added contact on his phone. User can either initiate a sync from device or from Ovi Contacts on the web to sync his contacts
5. After the sync completes, user views the Phonebook on the device and the name of the friend and the newly added email address appear in the Phonebook on the phone

The other important update in this new version of Ovi Mail is the support for Arabic language. Now the Arabic speaking users can view the Ovi mail UI in arabic.
