I have written a lot on how to save and improve the battery life in symbian mobiles and I think every symbian user knows how to do it.
Believe me the same tips are equally applicable for new nokia platform i.e. maemo (Nokia N900). Here I am going to write again some tips to improve the battery life in Nokia N900. However if you want to read the same tips for symbian mobiles, browse the following posts and I hope you will get something new.
If you have not used any symbian phone, here are some good tips to enhance and improve the battery life in N900.
Disconnect External Connections:
It is very important that you disconnect and switch off all external connections of your maemo device like bluetooth, GPS, WiFi etc. I will recommend you to disconnect the necessary connections too like GPRS when you go to sleep and you don’t want to read and reply the emails and chat with your friends.
Reduce Screen Brightness:
Try to reduce the screen brightness of your N900 as low as possible. I recommend to keep it on 2 out of 5.
Replace your Old SIM Card:
Some people are still having very old SIM cards. Old SIM card will have a lot of scratches on its pins. Some of them may even be bent inwards or otherwise damaged. And moreover old SIM cards operate on different voltages. So get a new one to use the minimum voltage and to improve the battery life as new SIM contains intact contacts.
Remove Widgets from desktop:
I found out that the OMWeather and Foreca widgets eat up a lot of CPU cycles and therefore battery power. Any widget that refreshes the display and its status will drain power. Instead, use icons and shortcuts. Also, the more widgets you have on the desktop, the more longer it will take phone to render their images and refresh everything.
Adjust your profile settings
* Remove vibration notifications when IM is received. Do you REALLY need your device to vibrate every single time someone sends you an IM?
* Adjust the volume for your notifications. Setting the volume to the MAX for your notifications is perhaps unnecessary.
* Select shorter ring tones. This way the device has to power on the external speaker for shorter period of time. Energy is saved this way.
* Disable the vibration feedback for the screen. Like disabling vibration for IM notifications, if the vibration motor is triggered with every finger press, that’s going to drain battery
I hope you will be able to improve the battery life with these simple tips. If you find some others, share with us.

Thanks for the tips, I noticed that reducing the Backlight time-out will increase the battery life as well. You don’t really need the display to stay on 2 minutes after your last keystroke!.
Thanks
@Ali….. yes you are right.
